Meet the Simply Abundant Crew

Mother and daughter team, Mary and Emily, are farming Simply Abundant Farm using traditional methods handed down from their ancestors who have farmed for generations.

Mary 

Mary's passion is the poultry.  She carefully hand-raises each batch of chickens and turkeys and takes great pride in producing quality birds.  As much as Mary enjoys the chickens, though, her favorites are by far the heritage Bourbon Red and Bronze turkeys she raises for Thanksgiving and Christmas. 

 When  she's not working on the farm, Mary enjoys kayaking and other outdoor adventures. 

Be sure to stop by and say hello to Mary at the South of the James Market on Saturdays. She is always happy to 'talk turkey'. 

Emily

Emily's main focus on the farm is her flock of sheep. Emily grew up with sheep and showed them in 4-H as a child.  She is even a previous Maryland Sheep and Wool Princess.

 Her passion for the sheep continues today with a flock that numbers close to fifty.  Emily does not manage the sheep flock alone.  She has help from her trusty canines which makes the work much easier.

Bruno, an Italian Maremma, keeps both the sheep and poultry safe from predators. 

In addition to working on the farm, Emily is also finishing her final year of law school. 

When she does find time to get away from school and the farm, she enjoys competing in sheepdog trials with her Border Collies.
